Megan Prince
Megan Prince works with reclaimed textiles and industrial remnants—old jeans, rope, and fabric scraps—processing them into continuous strips that she hand-builds into structural installations. The materials arrive imbued with lived history, which Prince treats as a raw physical condition. Her practice centers on accumulation, tension, and strain: how objects pile up, press against each other, and hold together under physical load. Raised by an architect and a contractor in Eastern Washington, she holds a BFA from the University of Washington and an MFA from Brooklyn College, where she studied with Vito Acconci. Her environments transform repetitive labor into spatial presence and have been exhibited nationally, including at METHOD Gallery, Museum of Museums, and the 2024 Seattle Art Fair.

In Strata, Megan Prince’s soft sculptures and print works form a critical structural foundation, translating human wear and civic memory into physical compression. Her soft sculptures—hand-built from reclaimed denim jeans torn into continuous ribbons and bound under tension—embody the exhibition’s focus on accumulated time and material weight. Each seam and frayed edge carries the somatic history of its previous life, transformed through Prince’s rigorous, repetitive labor into dense, tactile forms that press against and anchor the gallery space.
Complementing these dimensional sculptures are three works from her Communities print series. These prints extend her exploration of structural networks, capturing the delicate balance of tension, connection, and strain that holds collective environments together. Prince’s participation in Strata demonstrates how individual histories, when layered and bound, build an enduring landscape.
